The Udawalawe is situated in the Uva Sabaragamuwa Province in Sri Lanka and was declared a national park and established to provide shelter to wild life animals and displaced animals as a result of the construction of reservoirs and rivers and also to protect the catchment of the flowing river. The Udawalawe national park was initially used for cultivation and gradually changed into a Wild life sanctuary park and is also the third most visited park in Sri Lanka and also one of the most popular destinations.
Udawalawe lies on the limit of Sri Lanka’s wet and dry zones and the kalthota range and the diyawini falls are in the north of the recreation centre and the out corps of Bambaragala and reminikotha lies within the recreation centre. The environment encompassing the reservoir includes mashes, the Walawe stream and its tributaries, forests and prairies. Territories of open meadow are copious because of previous chena cultivating hones. There is a ranch of teak past the southern limit, underneath the dam, which was planted before the assertion of the recreation centre. Species recorded from the recreation centre incorporate 94 plants, 21 angle, 12 creatures of land and water, 33 reptiles, 184 flying creatures and 43 warm blooded creatures. Furthermore 135 types of butterflies are among the spineless creatures found in Udawalawe. Udawalawe is an imperative living space for Sri Lankan elephants, which are generally difficult to find in its open natural surroundings.
Numerous elephants are pulled in to the recreation centre on account of the Udawalawe repository with a group of around 250 accepted to be for all time occupants. The Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home was built up in 1995 with the end goal of taking care of surrendered elephant calves inside the park. An aggregate of nine calves, on two events in 1998 and 2000, with another eight calves in 2002, were discharged in the recreation centre when mature enough to battle for them. Safaris could be organized by making advanced booking and drive through the park in a four wheel drive to explore and observe the scenic beauty and the wild life animals and would certainly become memorable.
